Mesothelioma	Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer found in the sac lining the chest, lining of the abdominal cavity, or the lining around the heart. Most people with malignant mesothelioma have worked jobs where they were exposed to asbestos. Some people have been exposed through a household environment. Asbestos	Asbestos is a naturally occurring silicate mineral. It was appreciated for its ability to resist heat, electrical and chemical damage. However, it is also a toxic substance when inhaled. Inhalation can cause malignant mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis (a type of pneumoconiosis). Asbestos has been used in retardant coatings, concrete, bricks, pipes and fireplace cement, acid resistant gaskets, pipe insulation, ceiling insulation, fireproof drywall, flooring, roofing, lawn furniture and drywall joint compound.
